OLI FLIX GIVES ORGANIC OIL IN RETURN FOR USED OIL
From last November and thanks the private initiative of OliFlix (a company which produces organic oil in Flix, Tarragona, and it is a membership of APECPAE), for every 5 litres of used oil stored at the recycling plant of the village, OliFlix will give 0,5 litres of extra virgin olive oil. OliFlix has several international awards.
The price of the bottle given is 3,50 €. The initiative is called “oil x oil” and only the residents in Flix (nearly 4.000) can take advantage of this exchange. The used oil can only comes from domestic use and never from industry. Oils from restaurants, pastry shops and so on, can’t benefit from the exchange.
The procedure to follow is: people go to recycling plant with 5 litres of used oil and then, a ticket with his/her name, surname, date and signature of the person in charge is handed in. Residents must take this ticket to OliFlix mill where the exchange will be done.
The original idea came from Antonio Rey, the owner of OliFLix, and the Town Hall is very pleased with it. Oscar Bosch, economy council of the village, says: “It’s very interesting that a private company takes the initiative since sometimes from the town council it’s thought that these topics don’t interest the population. The Council cooperates with a widespread diffusion of the campaign.
In the very first week of the campaign, between 20 and 30 people have taken advantage of the exchange. “This is only a small village and it’s very difficult to collect 5 litres of used oil in a few days”, says the council.
This exchange campaign doesn’t have date time and it depends on how much oil is exchanged whether the company think it’s practical. Antonio Rey hopes people will take advantage of this new idea but it must be known that only the correct oil is recycled. In Flix about a thousand of litres are collected every year at the recycling waste plant, this information comes from the Town Council.
If the campaign goes on for a year with the same amount of litres, OliFLix will give 200 bottles of 1/2 litres of extra virgin olive oil or 100 litres.
Antonio Rey says that the only thing that he wants is for people to be aware of the importance of recycling to protect the environment and specially the water. Antonio Rey says: “We produce organic oil from the decade of eighties with traditional methods and we understand that this is very important to protect the environment.” The method of production is traditional with mill stones from the 1950s and the result is the finest extra virgin oil.
